Felony Charges for Hazing That Led to Brain Damage

Felony charges were brought Friday against Ryan Delanty and Thomas Shultz, two former members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at the University of Missouri at Columbia, for their roles in hazing Danny Santulli last fall, The Columbia Daily Tribune reported.

Santulli suffered brain damage in the incident, which left him blind and unable to walk or communicate.

Delanty and Shultz are charged with telling him to consume a bottle of vodka. Santulli passed out after he consumed three-fourths of a bottle. He was suffering from cardiac arrest when he was brought to the hospital.

The felony hazing charges against both men are life endangerment; they are also charged with the misdemeanor of supplying liquor to a minor or intoxicated person. Shultz was also indicted for felony tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution.

A petition calling for felony charges in the case has been signed by more than 35,000 people.
